Entity opens up games for the largest global gaming audience through the browser

Entity is building the home of console-quality games for the "new web". S platform where games that once required a console or a gaming PC run natively in a modern browser, with no downloads, no installs and no platform gatekeepers in the way. Players go from a single link to a game or multiplayer lobby in seconds. Developers get direct access to the largest game-playing audience in the world.

For most of the history of the industry, "serious" games have been locked behind dedicated hardware and friction-heavy distribution: a device to buy, a store to sign into, a multi-gigabyte download to wait through. The browser, by contrast, has been the domain of lightweight casual titles.

That constraint is now falling away. Two web standards — WebGPU and WebAssembly — together with steady improvements in game engines and tooling, allow games to run natively on-device inside the browser at a level of fidelity comparable to PC and leading consoles, with the ceiling rising as browser technology advances.

Entity is the platform layer built for that shift. It gives developers a self-publishing and distribution toolset designed for the open web, and gives players the fastest route yet from click to play — on whatever device they already have.

Entity's approach is distinct from cloud gaming. Cloud services stream video of a game running on a remote server, which introduces latency and heavy infrastructure cost. Entity's games run locally in the browser using WebGL, WebGPU and WebAssembly, so there is no server round trip and no streaming lag.

For players, the experience is simple: click a link, and play. Multiplayer lobbies are shareable in the same way, making social play immediate rather than gated behind installs and friend-list invitations.

For developers, Entity removes the distribution bottleneck. Studios building on modern web standards can publish directly to a global audience without a console platform holder or app store standing between them and their players.

Entity was founded by Rich Barnwell (CEO), Kev Bergin (CTO), Dave McGovern (COO), Fergus Duggan (Creative Director) and Artur Stawiarski — the leadership team behind DIGIT, another Act portfolio company that created Star Trek Fleet Command and was acquired by Scopely in 2019. They are joined by Head of Games Paul Farley, founder of Firestoke, Tag Games (acquired by Scopely) and ChilliConnect (acquired by Unity).

Between them, the team has built and scaled billion-dollar game franchises and delivered multiple high-profile exits. That combination of technical, creative and commercial track record in games at global scale is rare in an Irish seed-stage company, and it is central to why we backed Entity.
